Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met with Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday to discuss the forthcoming assembly elections. The convergence occurred shortly after ex-Chief Minister Champai Soren defected to the BJP, citing discontent with JMM's organizational approach and 'bitter humiliation.'

In attendance at the Congress president's residence were Congress general secretary K C Venugopal and Soren's wife, Kalpana Soren. While Hemant Soren labeled the visit a courtesy call, it's understood that electoral preparations were a significant subject of deliberation.

Champai Soren was initially appointed chief minister on February 2, filling in after Hemant Soren's resignation and subsequent apprehension by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. However, Hemant Soren resumed the office on July 4 following his bail release. The Congress and JMM continue to lead an alliance government in the state.
