Former Chief Minister Champai Soren has stepped down from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), citing dissatisfaction with the party's current policies and operational style. Soren, who plans to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on August 30, also relinquished his roles as an MLA and a minister in the Jharkhand Cabinet.
In a letter addressed to JMM supremo Shibu Soren, Champai Soren expressed his dismay at the party's deviation from its original principles, asserting that the JMM no longer provides a platform for addressing pressing issues. His decision comes after a series of events that led him to believe that BJP would be a better fit for addressing the needs of tribals, Dalits, and backward communities in Jharkhand.
Soren, who recently met Home Minister Amit Shah and announced his shift to the BJP, was greeted by a large throng of supporters upon returning to Ranchi. He emphasized that his decision was made in the interest of Jharkhand and vowed to continue his struggle for the state's marginalized groups.
