The Haryana unit of the ruling BJP on Wednesday challenged Congress to declare Kumari Selja as its chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming state assembly polls, questioning the party's commitment to the SC community.
The BJP has nominated Nayab Singh Saini, an OBC candidate, as its chief ministerial face for the elections scheduled for October 1. 'The BJP has already nominated a chief minister from the backward class. Rahul Gandhi claims to strongly support the SC community. Let Congress declare Selja as their candidate so we can see how committed they are to the SC community,' the party posted on X.
In response, Haryana Congress president Udai Bhan dismissed BJP's remarks, asserting that the ruling BJP should worry about itself as its government in the state appears to be on the decline. He added that the party's leadership will decide on the chief ministerial candidate after the results are announced.
