Political tensions boiled over in Sindhudurg district on Wednesday as party workers of Shiv Sena (UBT) and supporters of BJP leader Narayan Rane clashed at the site of the recently collapsed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue.
The 35-foot statue, unveiled last December by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, collapsed on Monday, sparking controversy among political factions.
Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is demanding Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's resignation. Tensions peaked when Thackeray and Rane's supporters scuffled, drawing in police efforts to restore order.
