The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has issued a legal notice to actress and politician Kangana Ranaut, along with the producers of the film 'Emergency', accusing them of misrepresenting Sikh history. The controversy stems from the portrayal of Sikhs in the film, set for release on September 6, where Ranaut plays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
SGPC spokesperson Gurcharan Singh Grewal stated that the notice calls for the removal of the film's trailer from all platforms and an apology. He emphasized that the movie projects a distorted image of notable Sikh figures and has sparked widespread discontent among the community. "We urge the government to intervene and prevent the release of a film that spreads hate," he said.
In Bathinda, protesters burnt an effigy of Ranaut. Sikh leader Gurdeep Singh accused her of inciting hatred against farmers and Sikhs. He demanded legal action against Ranaut and pledged to oppose the film's release. Gurdeep Singh's sentiments were echoed by other leaders, including Sukhraj Singh, who warned that any loss resulting from the film's release would be the government's responsibility.
