The ten-day monsoon session of the Vidhan Sabha commenced in Shimla on Tuesday with marked confrontations. The opposition, under Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, adopted an aggressive stance from the outset, underscoring their resolve to challenge the government on various fronts.
Thakur made clear that the opposition was well-prepared to tackle critical issues, including law and order, corruption, and unfulfilled governmental promises to the public. Speaking to the assembly, Thakur highlighted a recent mob-lynching incident in Baddi and alleged widespread corruption across state departments. He argued that the current government, despite its pledges, had failed to deliver.
In response, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu appealed for unity, urging the opposition to engage constructively rather than resort to walkouts. Sukhu requested the opposition to bring up significant issues such as farmers' concerns and corruption for thorough discussion.
