Taiwan drilled Monday with anti-amphibious landing missiles, showcasing its mobility and lethality to deter Chinese aggression. China claims the democratically ruled island as its territory, considering force if necessary.
During the two-day exercise in Pingtung County, troops fired the highly effective TOW 2A missiles mounted on M1167 Humvees at floating targets. These drills also tested the interoperability of the newer TOW 2B systems. Taiwan's strategy hinges on these mobile defenses to counteract China's numerical military superiority.
Chinese warplanes and warships frequently intimidate Taiwan. In response, Taiwan extended national military service and invested in advanced equipment. A majority of Taiwanese support de-facto independence, maintaining separation since 1949.
