Democrat Kamala Harris has raised an unprecedented $540 million in just over a month since beginning her campaign for U.S. president. The surge in donations, particularly during the Democratic National Convention, has painted a picture of growing Democratic enthusiasm for her candidacy, according to her campaign on Sunday.
A memo from Harris' campaign manager, Jen O'Malley Dillon, revealed that $82 million of the total came in during convention week, making this the most successful fundraising effort for any presidential campaign in such a short time.
Harris, who became a candidate on July 21 after President Joe Biden withdrew amid intra-party concerns about his cognitive abilities, has gained momentum and put former President Donald Trump on the defensive. This week, Harris and her vice-presidential candidate, Tim Walz, kick off a bus tour in Georgia to drum up support in the crucial state ahead of the November 5 election.
