Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday termed crimes against women an unpardonable sin, adding the guilty should not be spared. He made these strong remarks following protests over the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata and the sexual abuse of two young girls in Badlapur.

Addressing the Lakhpati Didi Sammelan in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, Modi stated that the safety of women should be the nation's top priority. 'The safety of mothers, sisters, and daughters is the country's priority. I have raised this issue repeatedly from the Red Fort,' he declared.

Modi highlighted his government's extensive efforts to support women's empowerment, citing the Lakhpati Didi scheme, which boosts the income of women's self-help groups. 'You must have heard that India is going to become the third-largest economy in the world. Women play a huge role in it,' Modi said. He called for continual support for the BJP-led Mahayuti government to ensure Maharashtra's stability and prosperity.
