The Maharashtra government has announced a significant hike in fees for VIP vehicle registration numbers. The most sought-after '0001' number for four-wheelers in high-demand cities such as Mumbai and Pune will now cost Rs 6 lakh, up from Rs 4 lakh.
According to a notification by the state transport department dated August 30, an out-of-series VIP number will be priced at Rs 18 lakh. The hike affects all major cities and brings the fees in line with the cost of mid-segment new cars.
Additionally, the revised fees allow for the transfer of VIP numbers to immediate family members, a change from the previous restriction. This amendment follows the first fee revision since 2013 and is anticipated to boost state transport department revenues significantly.
