In a significant development, the Mumbai Police have apprehended a main suspect in the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse case, officials announced on Tuesday. Businessman Arshad Khan, who had been evading authorities for seven months, was captured in Lucknow.

The tragedy on May 13 claimed 17 lives and injured over 80 as a massive illegal hoarding fell on a petrol pump amid severe weather conditions. Investigations unveiled a substantial monetary trail linking Ego Media Private Limited, the entity behind the hoarding, to Khan.

The probe has also led to the suspension of Quaiser Khalid, former Government Railway Police commissioner, due to alleged misconduct. The authorities claimed numerous financial transactions to individuals connected with Khan occurred during Khalid's tenure.
