Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday reiterated his government's commitment to strengthening laws that mandate stringent punishment for crimes against women.
During his address at the Lakhpati Didi rally in Jalgaon, Maharashtra, Modi elaborated on the significant strides made in the last decade to empower women. 'Till 2014, less than Rs 25,000 crore loans were dispensed to women self-help groups, but in the last 10 years, this figure has risen to Rs 9 lakh crore,' Modi stated.
Modi released a Rs 2,500 crore revolving fund, benefiting 48 lakh members of 4.3 lakh self-help groups, while emphasizing the Lakhpati Didi scheme's role in both increasing women's income and empowering future generations. He also highlighted women's critical role in India's economic growth.
