Turkish-Russian Joint Military Patrols Resume in Northern Syria

Turkey and Russia have recommenced joint military patrols in northern Syria after a hiatus of nearly a year. These operations take place in the Operation Peace Spring area, which was captured by Turkish and allied Syrian forces in 2019. In a renewed military collaboration, Turkey and Russia have resumed joint patrols in northern Syria after nearly a year's break, the Turkish Defence Ministry announced on Saturday.

The operations are taking place in the Operation Peace Spring area, a strategically significant 30-km strip on the Syrian side of the Turkey-Syria border. Captured from Kurdish fighters by Turkish and allied Syrian forces in 2019, this area's stability is crucial for both nations.

The revival of joint patrols also coincides with Ankara's overtures to reconcile with Syrian President Bashar Assad, whose regime is supported by Moscow. The resumption aims to secure Turkey's borders, protect civilian populations, and reinforce stability in the region.
