Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his anticipation for a visit to India, highlighting its potential role in global diplomacy aimed at resolving the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Zelenskyy's comments were made after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his first trip to Ukraine, extended an invitation for him to visit India.
Addressing the Indian media, Zelenskyy described Modi's visit as historic and underscored the importance of India's support in fostering peace, emphasizing the necessity for Ukraine and Russia to engage in dialogue.
During their bilateral talks, Modi reiterated India's commitment to peace, suggesting swift negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to end the ongoing war, which began in February 2022.
"A strategic partnership requires timely dialogue," Zelenskyy noted, expressing his eagerness to meet in India.
He stressed the importance of understanding a country through its people and pointed out India's potential role in achieving diplomatic influence.
Additionally, Zelenskyy relayed that any peace propositions must respect Ukraine's territory, values, and democracy, while also asserting, "PM Modi wants peace more than Putin," emphasizing the disparity in priorities between the Russian and Indian leaders.
