In an unprecedented move, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ukraine on Friday for a brief yet significant seven-hour visit to engage directly with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This marks the first visit by an Indian prime minister to the embattled nation.

Key discussions between Modi and Zelenskyy, both private and in larger delegation settings, centered on finding a negotiated settlement to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Modi, who arrived in Kyiv aboard a 'Rail Force One' train from Poland, emphasized that India's position has always been one of 'dialogue and diplomacy' to restore peace and stability.

Modi's visit follows closely on the heels of his recent trip to Moscow, where he had extensive talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Modi also held discussions with the Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, highlighting global concerns about the conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia. Modi reiterated India's commitment to a human-centric approach in addressing the Ukraine conflict and assured Zelenskyy of continued support towards a peaceful resolution.
