Ukraine's Offensive: A Turning Point in Russia Conflict
British and American intelligence chiefs hailed Ukraine's recent incursion into Russia's Kursk region as a significant military achievement, urging allies not to be deterred by Russian threats of escalation. The move exposes Russian military vulnerabilities but has not diverted Putin's focus from eastern Ukraine.
The heads of the British and American foreign intelligence agencies commended Ukraine's surprising incursion into Russia on Saturday, calling it a noteworthy achievement that could potentially shift the dynamics of the prolonged 2-1/2-year war. They advised Kyiv's allies not to be intimidated by Russia's threats of escalation.
Richard Moore, head of MI6, described Ukraine's bold August offensive in Russia's Kursk region as an attempt to change the game. The offensive reportedly captured around 1,300 square kilometers of Russian territory, affecting ordinary Russians directly.
CIA Director William Burns supported Moore's remarks during a rare joint public event, describing the offensive as a significant achievement that revealed weaknesses in the Russian military. However, whether Ukraine can turn this tactical victory into long-term gain remains uncertain. Russia continues to focus on eastern Ukraine, particularly the city of Pokrovsk.
