In a contentious move, the district administration on Thursday bulldozed a shopping complex belonging to Moid Khan, an accused in a gang-rape case, alleged by BJP to be a Samajwadi Party member.
Ayodhya police arrested Khan and his employee Raju Khan on July 30 for the alleged rape and videotaping of a 12-year-old girl. The incident resurfaced when the victim was found pregnant during a recent medical examination.
The demolition of the shopping complex started around 1:30 PM in Bhadarsa town, with heavy security presence. Officials stated that the complex was built on government land, justifying the demolition.
Earlier on August 3, the administration had also demolished Khan's bakery, constructed allegedly over a pond. BJP leaders have accused Khan of being affiliated with the Samajwadi Party. In contrast, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav called for a DNA test, dismissing BJP's allegations as biased.
