Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha by-elections in Tripura on Wednesday. The filing was witnessed by Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with other MLAs and NDA members at the State Election Commission office.
Bhattacharjee expressed gratitude for his nomination, stating, "The Rajya Sabha by-election is set for September 3, and my name has been put forward by the BJP. I appreciate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, and Home Minister Amit Shah for this opportunity. I also urge opposition MLAs to support me for Tripura's development." Chief Minister Saha took to social media to show solidarity, wishing Bhattacharjee a successful journey ahead.
The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has decided to field former MLA Sudhan Das for the same by-election. CPI(M) Secretary Jitendra Chaudhury announced that the party will contest the seat, which became vacant following Biplab Kumar Deb's resignation after his Lok Sabha election victory.
The Election Commission has slated the election for 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats, including one from Tripura, on September 3. The last date for submitting nominations is August 21, with scrutiny on August 22. The final withdrawal date for candidates varies by state but is set for August 26 in Tripura.
