The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala has launched a scathing attack on the opposition Congress, accusing it of harboring a 'power group' analogous to the one reportedly existing in the film industry.
CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan cited an interview given by former AICC member Simi Rosebell John, who asserted that women leaders require 'sponsorship' from party figures to ascend within the ranks.
Govindan further alleged that Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan, who recently accused CPI(M) of shielding alleged offenders in a Malayalam film scandal, is part of such a group within Congress. The accusations have not yet been addressed by Congress or the leaders implicated.
