Traditional journalists, however, face restricted access and challenging working conditions.
At this week's Democratic National Convention, social media influencers are vying with journalists for access, prestige, and workspace. The convention, which aims to boost Kamala Harris' presidential campaign, has credentialed more than 200 influencers.
It marks the first time Democrats have fully embraced the power of platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram to reach millions directly, particularly young voters who avoid traditional media. Matt Hill, the convention's senior communications director, emphasized giving creators a 'front row seat to history.'
Traditional journalists, however, report severe restrictions and challenging conditions. Jonathan D. Salant of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette highlighted the difficulties, while influencers shared experiences of better access and amenities. The changing media landscape raises questions about the future roles of both groups.
