BRS working president K T Rama Rao has strongly opposed the ruling Congress's proposal to install a statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in front of the Telangana Secretariat. Rao declared that his party would replace the statue with 'Telangana Thalli' if they regain power.

The previous BRS government had plans to install a 'Telangana Thalli' statue at the location, Rao noted. He asserted that once KCR leads the government again, the Rajiv Gandhi statue will be relocated courteously to a spot chosen by Congress supporters.

As a mark of protest, Rao announced plans to rename Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport after a famous Telangana personality. He referenced other airports named after local figures, such as Bengaluru's Kempegowda and Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj airports.
