Former foreign secretary Harshvardan Shringla has called for India to engage with the current authorities in Bangladesh, stressing that instability in the neighboring country directly affects the security scenario in Northeastern India.

Speaking at the launch of a report on policy options prepared by think tank Society to Harmonise Aspirations for Responsible Engagement (SHARE), Shringla emphasized the critical need for engagement. He highlighted the direct repercussions of Bangladesh's political instability on both security and developmental projects in North East India.

Experts at the event, including retired Lt Gen R P Kalita and former Ladakh Lt Governor R K Mathur, discussed the report's recommendations, aiming to ensure they are implementable and acceptable as Bangladesh undergoes socio-political upheaval. Assam Chief Information Commissioner Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta raised concerns about the potential refugee crisis and recent jail-breaks in Bangladesh, urging India's internal security to heighten alertness.
