In a major setback for the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) ahead of the Haryana Assembly Polls on October 1, Tohana MLA Devender Singh Babli resigned from the party on Saturday. Babli addressed his resignation to national president Ajay Singh Chautala, stating a commitment to service over self-serving politics.
Babli emphasized his dedication to athletes and students, irrespective of the election timeline. He mentioned that his future course of action would be decided by the people of Tohana and his supporters. The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that the Haryana elections will be held in a single phase on October 1, with votes counted on October 4.
JJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala welcomed the election announcement and assured that the party is well-prepared to contest all 90 assembly seats. Chautala criticized the current CM's performance, expressing confidence in the public's decision-making. Key election dates include September 12 for filing nominations, September 13 for scrutiny, and September 16 as the last date for withdrawal.
After the 2019 elections, the BJP formed a coalition government with the JJP. However, the alliance dissolved earlier this year. The 2024 elections are expected to see a four-way contest between BJP, Congress, JJP, and AAP.
