In response to the alleged sexual assault and murder of a second-year postgraduate student at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MP Supriya Sule expressed confidence that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee would act swiftly to ensure justice. Sule noted the importance of quick action and emphasized the need for fast-track court proceedings.

Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Sudhanshu Trivedi criticized the state government, alleging that protection had been extended to the criminals involved. Trivedi questioned the reappointment of the college's principal and called for an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Doctors and medical students held a protest at AIIMS Delhi, following a nationwide shutdown of OPD services called by the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA). The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has also demanded a detailed inquiry into the conditions that enabled the crime and measures to improve the safety of doctors, especially women.
