In a fresh political skirmish, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh has condemned the West Bengal police's decision to label the upcoming Nabanna Abhijan Rally illegal, asserting that every citizen has the right to protest in a democratic setup. Ghosh remarked, "What right does the police have to call it legal or illegal? In a democratic country, anyone can protest. The Supreme Court has also said that if a peaceful protest or march is taken out, the police cannot hinder it."
Ghosh further dismissed TMC leader Kunal Ghosh's claim that the rally was staged by the BJP and CPM. He critiqued the state government's handling of a recent incident, accusing them of not making arrests and tampering with evidence. "People are getting furious and coming to the streets because the state government did not follow any procedure," he said.
Earlier, West Bengal ADG Police Manoj Kumar Verma had declared the rally organized by 'Paschimbanga Chhatro Samaj' illegal, citing it as a potential source of unrest in Kolkata. Verma explained, "Nabanna is a restricted area. If any programme is organised here then the organisers should put a request to the police officials. We have very specific inputs that some miscreants might try to create a situation of unrest."
In related news, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has continued its investigation into the rape-murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital with a second round of polygraph tests on former principal Sandip Ghosh. The CBI, which previously tested an accused in the case, aims to gather more evidence through polygraphs conducted by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory.
