The Congress has taken a sharp jab at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign, claiming he is attempting to co-opt a national symbol that his ideological associates have long rejected.
On Friday, Modi changed his profile picture on X to the national flag and encouraged citizens to do the same, aiming to transform the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' initiative into a widespread grassroots movement ahead of Independence Day.
Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh pointed out that the RSS has historically criticized the Tricolour. He cited RSS's second chief, M S Golwalkar, and their mouthpiece, Organiser, both of whom disparaged the national flag. Ramesh stated the RSS didn't regularly hoist the Tiranga at its headquarters until 2001. He also highlighted the RSS's non-participation in the Quit India Movement, contrasting it with the Congress's involvement.
