In a significant political move, Samajwadi Party supremo Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday appointed veteran party leader Mata Prasad Pandey as the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. This decision followed a strategic meeting with party MLAs.

Amid growing political momentum, SP MLA Atul Pradhan emphasized the party's commanding mandate from the recent general elections, asserting that a government led by Akhilesh Yadav is imminent in Uttar Pradesh. Pradhan criticized the current administration, stating that governance appears absent and chaotic, with officials acting independently. He confidently predicted the formation of an SP government under Akhilesh Yadav's leadership.

The Samajwadi Party made remarkable strides in the recent polls, winning 37 seats and becoming the single largest party in the state. Highlighting their success, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav and leader Dimple Yadav secured victories in Kannauj and Mainpuri, commanding substantial margins. The party's vote share stood at an impressive 33.59 per cent. Conversely, the BJP witnessed a decline, securing only 33 seats, falling from its 2019 tally and losing key constituencies such as Faizabad, Amethi, and Raebareli.
