Prosecutors Defend Trump's Conviction Despite Supreme Court Ruling

Manhattan prosecutors have urged a judge to uphold Donald Trump's conviction, arguing it is based on personal conduct unrelated to official presidential acts. Despite a Supreme Court ruling that presidents cannot face criminal charges for official acts, prosecutors insist their case is valid and should not be dismissed.

Manhattan prosecutors have called for a judge to maintain the criminal conviction of former President Donald Trump, despite a Supreme Court ruling that presidents cannot be charged for official acts. The court filing from July 24, made public on Thursday, highlights the distinction between Trump's personal conduct and his presidential responsibilities.

The conviction, stemming from Trump's falsification of business records related to hush money paid to Stormy Daniels, hinges on purely personal matters, according to prosecutors. Trump's defense lawyers argue that evidence of his official acts was improperly used during the trial, but legal experts believe Judge Juan Merchan is unlikely to overturn the verdict.

Prosecutors emphasized that even if some evidence pertained to official acts, the conviction should stand due to abundant proof of Trump's guilt. Merchan is expected to decide on Trump's arguments by September 6 and, if the conviction is upheld, the case will proceed to sentencing.
