The Tipra Motha supremo, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, announced on Thursday that a delegation from Autonomous District Councils in the Northeast met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi to discuss pressing regional issues.

'Met Hon'ble Home Minister Amit Shah, along with leaders from the Northeast councils. He has assured us issues relating to all councils will be amicably addressed within a month. A committee will be formed to solve issues concerning our people,' Debbarma wrote on Facebook.

Addressing concerns about his commitment to people's rights, Debbarma remarked, 'While some in my state doubted me after we shared power, the indigenous people of Northeast appreciated our efforts to secure constitutional rights.'

Just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Tipra Motha, which emerged as the main opposition party by winning 13 seats in the 60-member assembly last year, joined the Manik Saha-led cabinet.

'A satisfying day at the Home Ministry with all the officials I met. We will present our case well-prepared. Your support gives me strength to follow the path of truth,' Debbarma said in another social media post on Wednesday.

Earlier, Debbarma hinted that he and party president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl would represent Tipra Motha for official talks with the Centre and the state government on the 'Tiprasa accord'.

The regional party signed the Tiprasa accord in March 2024 with the Centre and state government to tackle problems facing the indigenous people.
