Sukhbir Singh Badal, chief of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), dissolved the party's highest decision-making body—the core committee—on Tuesday amidst internal rebellion.

Rebel leader Gurpartap Singh Wadala lashed out at Badal, calling his actions dictatorial and aimed at sidelining those advocating for change. This move follows calls from numerous senior party members for Badal's resignation after SAD's poor showing in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Key figures involved in this rebellion included former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra and former SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur. SAD senior leader Daljit Singh Cheema confirmed the dissolution of the core committee and stated that the party's working committee has given Badal the authority to reorganize the party. The restructuring process was discussed in a meeting attended by senior leaders in Chandigarh, and more details will follow soon.
