Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump asserted on Sunday that Vice President Kamala Harris would be easier to defeat in November's election than Democratic President Joe Biden, who stepped down as his party's candidate earlier in the day. 'Harris will be easier to beat than Joe Biden would have been,' Trump told CNN.

Trump and his campaign subsequently criticized both Biden and Harris on social media, questioning Biden's capability to continue serving as president. Biden ended his reelection campaign on Sunday, noting the waning confidence of fellow Democrats in his mental acuity and ability to challenge Trump. Biden endorsed Harris to replace him as the party's candidate.

Concerns about Biden's reelection viability were heightened following a lackluster debate performance against Trump last month. On his Truth Social platform, Trump stated that Biden 'was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve.'

Key Republican figures, including House Speaker Mike Johnson, echoed Trump's sentiment, asserting Biden's unfitness to complete his term if unfit to run. Johnson called for Biden's resignation. Trump commented on Truth Social, promising quick remediation of the alleged damages done by Biden's presidency.

The Trump campaign, now slightly ahead in polls following the debate, had anticipated Biden's potential dropout, strategizing resource redeployment accordingly. Publicly, Trump advisers have downplayed concerns about facing Harris, planning to link her closely to Biden's controversial policies.

Following Biden's exit, the Trump campaign branded Harris as Biden's 'enabler in chief,' emphasizing their shared political record. The Republican National Committee intensified their offensive with a YouTube video accusing Harris of immigration policy neglect.

In anticipation of Harris possibly topping the 2024 Democratic ticket, Trump's campaign and allies have preemptively targeted her to undermine her credibility. Since March 2021, when Biden tasked Harris with addressing illegal immigration with Mexico and Central American nations, Republicans have criticized her perceived failure, though she wasn't responsible for securing the border directly.
