U.S. Congressman Tom Rice's political career took a drastic turn when he voted to impeach Donald Trump for inciting the January 2021 Capitol riot. Following the vote, Rice faced a torrent of angry calls, emails, and even death threats, resulting in a sheriff's deputy escorting him to public events during his campaign for a sixth term. Trump, who endorsed Rice's opponent, condemned the congressman for 'stabbing the Republican Party and the country in the back.'

Amid the ensuing political fallout, Rice was decisively defeated in the Republican primary. Once celebrated as a fiscal conservative, he now finds himself shunned by former allies and supporters. Rice's experience is emblematic of a broader trend within the GOP, where Trump and his loyalists have enforced strict allegiance, expelling members who question his leadership or policies.

Since the launch of his Truth Social platform in 2022, Trump has targeted over 100 Republican officials through more than 600 posts. In one example, he berated Georgia Governor Brian Kemp for refusing to overturn the 2020 presidential election results. Trump's aggressive tactics have not only isolated dissenters like Rice but have also reshaped the party by instilling fear of retaliation among officials, aligning the GOP more closely with Trump's vision.
