The Maharashtra Congress on Saturday launched its 'chargesheet' against the Eknath Shinde government, alleging widespread corruption and predicting a public backlash in the upcoming assembly polls.
Congress Legislature Party leader Balasaheb Thorat claimed that crime and drug issues have surged under the current administration, and corruption is endemic across all sectors.
Thorat highlighted that Mumbai's infrastructure suffered during the monsoon due to corrupt practices in sewer and drain cleaning. He accused the government of purchasing MLAs and alleged that this administration, formed through corruption, will face public wrath in the elections.
Inflation and unemployment have escalated dramatically under the Shinde government, which includes Shiv Sena, BJP, and Ajit Pawar-led NCP, Thorat added.
Mumbai Congress chief and Lok Sabha MP Varsha Gaikwad claimed that prime land in Mumbai is being given away to government 'friends' for free, while businesses are exiting the state.
Gaikwad accused the government of injuring Mumbai's self-respect, identity, and harmony. She cited the relaxed rules under the 'dear friend' scheme for the Dharavi redevelopment project and noted that dairy land is similarly being handed over to private entities.
