Prime Accused Dies After Jumping Into Pond During Crime Scene Recreation

The prime accused in the rape of a minor girl allegedly escaped from police custody, jumped into a pond, and died on Saturday morning in Assam's Nagaon district, an official reported.

Authorities stated the accused, who was apprehended on Friday, was brought to the crime scene for re-creation around 3.30 am. 'The accused escaped from police custody and jumped into the pond. A search operation was launched immediately, and his body was recovered after nearly two hours,' police informed.

The 14-year-old victim was reportedly raped by three individuals who accosted her while she returned home from tuition. She was found unconscious by locals who alerted the police. One suspect has been arrested, another detained, and a search for the third is ongoing. Director General of Police G P Singh reviewed the investigation's progress on Friday.
