The Congress party on Tuesday expressed strong objections to a remark made by BJP leader Amit Malviya, suggesting that its leaders were assassinated due to political decisions. The party has demanded that the BJP sack Malviya and issue a public apology.

In a letter to BJP chief J P Nadda, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh termed Malviya's comments, which referenced the assassinations of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi, as 'deeply insensitive' and a disturbing attempt to trivialize significant historical events for political gain. Ramesh insisted that Prime Minister Modi and BJP leadership disavow Malviya's remarks unequivocally.

During a TV debate, Malviya accused Congress leaders of encouraging violence against PM Modi. Ramesh and other senior Congress leaders, including P Chidambaram, condemned the statement and highlighted the historical contributions of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi to nation-building, demanding immediate action against Malviya.
