Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday commended the central government's decision to declare June 25 as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas', describing the move as ''commendable''.

Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, Adityanath highlighted that the memories of the Emergency period remain a stain on Indian democracy. He noted that this day would serve to maintain the spirit of respect and faith in democratic values among citizens.

Amit Shah announced the decision via social media, indicating that an official notification had been issued by the government.

In a post on the social media platform X, using the hashtag #SamvidhaanHatyaDiwas, Adityanath remarked, ''The Government of India's decision, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to observe June 25 every year as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' is commendable. On this day in 1975, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi tried to kill Indian democracy by imposing 'Emergency'.''

Adityanath further emphasized that 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' is a move to remind every Indian of the threat posed by authoritarian figures and to preserve democratic values. He extended heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah and ended with a patriotic note, ''Jai Hind''.
