U.S. President Joe Biden had a series of verbal slip-ups on Thursday at the NATO summit in Washington, raising concerns about his age as he looks ahead to a potential re-election campaign.
Verbal gaffes have been a recurring feature in Biden's lengthy political career, but the scrutiny has intensified following his lackluster debate performance against Republican candidate Donald Trump last month. The 78-year-old Trump, who also faces age-related concerns, frequently made false claims during the debate and often goes off script during campaign rallies.
Among Biden's errors on Thursday was mistakenly referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy as "President Putin." The slip drew audible gasps from the room before Biden corrected himself. Later, Biden confused Vice President Kamala Harris with Donald Trump during a news conference. Additionally, he struggled to articulate the term "chiefs of staff," incorrectly referring to them as "commander in chief," a title he himself holds as president.
