TDP legislator C Ayyannapatrudu is on track to be elected as the Speaker of Andhra Pradesh's 16th Legislative Assembly, receiving unanimous backing as no other MLA contested the position. Secretary General of the Legislative Assembly PPK Ramacharyulu confirmed that nominations were exclusively submitted for Ayyannapatrudu by the TDP's Narsipatnam MLA.

"All nominations were received for Ayyannapatrudu. Three were filed on his behalf," Ramacharyulu revealed to PTI, indicating no other contenders for the Speaker's role. The official election announcement is slated for Saturday.

The inaugural session of the 16th Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly commenced on Friday, with 171 newly-elected legislators taking the oath of office. According to Ramacharyulu, the Pro-tem Speaker and TDP legislator G Butchaiah Chowdary administered the oath to 171 MLAs, including himself, with Governor S Abdul Nazeer swearing in Chowdary on Thursday in the Raj Bhavan.

After the swearing-in, the Pro-tem Speaker adjourned the House until 10.30 am on Saturday. The session began at 9.45 am on Friday at the Assembly Hall in Velagapudi, Amravati. YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy also attended, taking his oath as an MLA. The NDA alliance secured a sweeping victory in the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, winning 164 seats in the 175-member House.
