In a grave concern for tourism safety, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi revealed to the state Assembly the drowning deaths of 47 individuals at the state's beaches, including Puri, in the past five years.
Responding to a query from BJP's Om Prakash Mishra, Majhi highlighted ongoing preventive measures, such as regular patrols on various beaches to safeguard tourists.
The state has pinpointed deep, hazardous areas, while deploying lifeguards equipped for rapid rescue operations, alongside campaigns urging beachgoers to avoid known dangerous sites for bathing.
