The Delhi High Court has taken a significant step towards ensuring dignity and healthcare for marginalized individuals. The court has instructed Lok Nayak Hospital to provide necessary treatment to a HIV positive transwoman, disregarding her lack of identity documents.
Justice Sanjeev Narula, acknowledging the petitioner's harrowing history of abduction and abuse, has issued a notice to both the Delhi government and the Centre. This notice prioritizes her immediate medical needs and initiates pathways for her rehabilitation and a secure shelter, particularly amidst the harsh winter conditions in the capital.
Authorities have been asked to consider providing her with skill training for sustainable rehabilitation. As shelters and NGOs had previously denied her accommodation due to the absence of identity proof, this court order marks a critical intervention in safeguarding her rights. The case is set to be reviewed again on January 9.
