Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has raised serious allegations about the death of Somnath Suryavanshi, a Dalit man, whilst in police custody in Parbhani. The incident reportedly followed Suryavanshi's arrest during unrest triggered by the desecration of a Constitution replica.
Minister Athawale met Suryavanshi's family and demanded the government provide financial assistance and a job for a family member. The minister asserted that despite initial reports stating Suryavanshi died of a heart attack, his body bore injuries suggesting otherwise.
Athawale has called for action against the police officers involved, as public outrage grows. He plans to discuss the matter with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, stressing the unacceptability of police brutality.
