Jammu & Kashmir's Power Push: Omar Abdullah's Electrifying Reforms

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasized his administration's commitment to energy reforms, focusing on reducing power distribution losses and advancing metering across the union territory. Speaking to media, he highlighted that the initiative, part of a national scheme, will curb electricity pilferage.

Abdullah noted both the J&K administration and the Union Power Ministry's dedication to these reforms, with J&K spending Rs 9,500 crore annually on power purchases. He assured increased electricity supply compared to previous years despite existing power cuts.

By completing power projects swiftly, Abdullah intends to boost electricity generation and banking during summer for winter use. With AT&C losses over 50%, efforts aim to cut them below 20%. Additionally, a planned 200 free units scheme awaits full metering implementation in early 2024.
