High Stakes: Ujjwal Nikam Tapped for High-Profile Beed Murder Case

In a significant development, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has tapped senior lawyer Ujjwal Nikam to take the helm as the special public prosecutor in the murder case of Santosh Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Massajog village.
Fadnavis revealed the potential appointment after discussions with BJP MLA Suresh Dhas, who had submitted a memorandum calling for Nikam's involvement. Known for his role in prosecuting high-profile cases such as the 26/11 terror attacks, Nikam has asked for time to consider the offer.
The state government has also set up a Special Investigation Team, led by IPS officer Basavaraj Teli, to further probe the murder, amidst calls for the arrest of individuals linked to the crime.
