In a significant development, Justice V Ramasubramanian has officially taken over as the chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The esteemed former Supreme Court judge highlighted that human rights are profoundly intertwined with India's cultural ethos.
The National Human Rights Commission announced his appointment on December 23, filling the vacancy left by Justice Arun Kumar Mishra, whose term ended in June. Justice Ramasubramanian's appointment follows a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to select the next head of the rights panel.
Justice Ramasubramanian, who has authored 102 judgments in landmark cases, emphasized the essential collaboration between various stakeholders to effectively promote and protect human rights in India.
