In a significant move, over 900 villagers in Jharkhand's Chatra district abstained from voting in the Assembly election on Wednesday, alleging a lack of justice in a murder case.
Navratanpur village, located nearly 170 km from Ranchi in Pratapur block, saw no votes cast at booth 201, as confirmed by Chatra District Election Officer Ramesh Gholap.
The villagers, discontent with the investigation into Ranjit Kumar Yadav's death, claim authorities have yet to apprehend those responsible. However, police authorities maintain that Yadav's death was a suicide, dismissing the villagers' claims.
