Terror Conviction: Hizb-Ut-Tahrir Member Jailed for Five Years

A special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Chennai has delivered a decisive verdict against a member of the Hizb-Ut-Tahrir (HuT) terror outfit. Sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment, the individual was found guilty of promoting the divisive and violent ideology of the proscribed group.
According to an official communique released on Tuesday, the convicted, identified as Abdullah alias Saravana Kumar, faces a fine of Rs 10,000 for breaches under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The court's judgment was rendered on Monday.
NIA's in-depth investigation brought to light the convict's attempts to associate with HuT to further its activities. By uploading Facebook posts under the alias 'Abdullah ibn Subramanian', Kumar sought to disrupt India's sovereignty, aiming to foster disaffection towards the government and incite unlawful activities.
