The Kerala government's cabinet decision on Wednesday elevated senior IPS officer ADGP M R Ajithkumar to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP). This move comes after Ajithkumar faced criticism for his past interactions with RSS leaders, which led to political controversies.
Despite being close to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and initially losing his law and order duties, Ajithkumar was promoted during a cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister. The 1995-batch IPS officer is now set to take on the top position, as recommended by a scrutiny committee.
The cabinet also decided to promote other officials, including S Suresh from the same batch to DGP, while Manoj Abraham's appointment from the 1994 batch will finalise the top rank promotions. Additional promotions include Tarun Kumar to ADGP and officers from the 2007 batch to IG rank.
