An 11-year-old girl from Jharkhand, employed as a domestic worker in a Noida apartment for two years, was rescued recently, officials announced on Tuesday. Legal proceedings have been launched against the couple that exploited her, in clear violation of child labor laws.
India forbids employing children below 14 or between 14 and 18 in hazardous occupations. The girl's family received Rs 5,000 monthly for her labor, which included cleaning, childcare, and other chores. Residents reported the girl's plight, leading to her rescue and subsequent medical examination.
The Child Welfare Committee took charge of the girl, who was later sheltered in a child care home. Awareness and prompt reporting through helplines like 1098 remain crucial to combat child labor, emphasized child helpline official Yuvraj Kumar.
