Greek authorities persisted in the search for a missing child on Monday, after a migrant boat collided with the rocky shores of the Aegean Sea island of Samos. The accident occurred when the inflatable dinghy, carrying 46 migrants including 21 children, hit the rocks.
Among the survivors, a woman reported her child fell into the water during the chaotic landing, prompting an urgent search operation. Divers and coast guard patrols combed the area but, as yet, have found no trace of the missing child.
As one of Europe's main entry points for migrants from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, Greece often sees boats reaching its shores. Meanwhile, on the island of Chios, another 40 migrants with nine children were secured and taken to a reception center after being discovered on a nearby islet.
