The Punjab BJP, on Monday, lodged a request with the Election Commission, demanding an FIR against Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring.
According to a complaint sent to the chief election commissioner, Warring allegedly conducted a meeting at a mosque in Gidderbaha, promoting votes for his spouse, Amrita Warring, the Congress candidate for the Gidderbaha assembly segment in the forthcoming bypoll.
The Punjab BJP, led by office secretary Suneel Dutt Bhardwaj, accused Warring of posting meeting photos on Facebook, which they argue violates the model code of conduct.
The Punjab BJP urged the Muktsar Sahib SSP to take strict action and file charges against those involved under various sections of the IPC and the Religious Institutions Act.
Raja Warring vacated the Gidderbaha seat after being elected to the Lok Sabha from Ludhiana in the 2024 parliamentary elections, with bypolls set for November 20.
